Rated 3 out of 5 by from Its a modern fan!!! I bought this 2 motnths ago and its been... Ok! Its first of all very disappointing that the cord does not come out at all I've used tools even still does not work. The fact that the switch is in the back is stupid I'm glad Holmes saved a few cents with that one. The mother is good and the fan is not overly loud, if you use your fan for white noise it is pretty good, and it cools my room as well. One thing I really like is the replaceable fuse on the plug that is helpful over the lasko fans I have previously had. If I had the choice I would take back my old lasko but until this fails I'm going to keep it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good blowing fan I brougth the 20" box fan and like it very much but the cord was destroyed and I have been trying to find a replacement cord. I have tried to send messages via chat with Holmes.com and no one ever answer. I have tried to order the cord from other electric supply companies but they do not fit. I really wish Holmes would contact me and send me a replacement cord. The fan unit is just sitting there unused.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Noisy and poorly made. Fan blades fall off easily. I paid $30 for this fan, to replace an old JCPenney metal box fan I had for decades, so long the cord rusted through. I tossed it and decided to treat myself to a brand new fan. The only one offered by the store (Fred Meyer) was this one. I have a small Holmes fan that has worked fine for many years so I thought it was a wise purchase. No. This fan is very noisy and it falls apart easily. If I just pick it up to turn around to vent air out of the window THE FAN BLADE COMES OFF THE SPINDLE, it is so poorly made. Fortunately the front plastic grate is easy to unscrew and fan blades can be forced back onto the spindle (until it comes off again). This is the third time this has happened in the two months I have used it. So typical of today’s shoddy short-lived products. Very disappointed. It does do what fans do most of the time and moves air around, I will give it that, but will be surprised if it lasts the summer.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poor Design Quality The fan does its job. However, I've tried to disconnect the cord from the fan motor in order to box it back up and it will NOT come out. "Pull firmly" is an understatement. And this is on both units I purchased and kept. The third unit I returned to Target; I turned it on all 3 settings and it spun very slowly so I figured a bad motor in that one. Like I said, it will do the job for the short run, but is definitely not designed for long-term usage or seasonal storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's a fairly cheap fan that blows air I have come across several of these fans in my local Salvation Army. It has come to the point where I can adequately review its performance, quality, and durability. Every. single. one of the fans have ran long enough to accumulate an impressive blanket of dust. This proves that this fan is indeed long-lasting. Heck, even the bearings seem to have more than enough lubrication in them, as the wind-down time is certainly impressive for how long they have been used (about 3-4 years). Now, this fan blows air just about as good as you would expect for this price. You can definitely feel the air from a distance, although compared to, say, an 18 inch Lasko Cyclone pedestal fan, it's not impressive. It may just be me, but the overall weight of this fan makes it feel flimsy. It's very lightweight, probably a bit lighter than the competing Lasko B20200 / 3733. The grilles are definitely more deformable than the ones on my Galaxy 4733. If you aren't careful, it could come into contact with the blades while it's running. Also, the handle...it's not great. I would much prefer a handle on top of the fan, like it is in Lasko fans. I suppose it's not too bad though. One thing that is definitely the thing I dislike most about this fan is that the speed selector switch is on the REAR of the fan, not on top. If you have this fan facing you and you want to change the speed, you have to reach towards the back and feel around for the knob before you can change it. I guess it would make sense for exhausting air out a window, but even then it's a rare minority who use for that purpose.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Turns on but doesn't put out much air I bought this unit just a few days ago. It works but it doesn't put out much air. I have a 5 year old Lasko box fan and it works much better than this unit. The design of it makes it really hard to use in a window or really anywhere because the dial to adjust the speed is in the back middle of the unit. Also, the handle is recessed into the unit which I don't like because it's hard to grip. The fan seems flimsy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Ok, but cord doesn't come out Why have a cord that didn't come attached if you can't remove it. Trying to follow directions to store in original box, but you can't get it in the box with the cord attached and you can't get it loose no matter how hard you pull. Very poor design.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A disappointing drop in quality. This fan does its job but it has two or three very dumb design decisions that are entirely about saving pennies in manufacturing, even if they cause the product to be considerably more annoying to use. Where do MOST box fans ends up? WINDOWS. It's almost always IN windows. So who thought it was a good idea to put the controls all the way in the back? My last box fan had the controls on top, like almost every other box fan I've ever seen. Now i have to awkwardly reach behind the thing and pull it out of place on the windowsill, so what previously was a easy is now an annoying task EVERY SINGLE TIME I USE THE FAN. So I'm real glad you guys saved literally pennies of plastic and wire by moving the switch to the motor housing, but i will never buy another Holmes product because i hate seeing stuff get increasingly expensive but the the design gets worse. Also, the cord sticking straing out punches into window screens. Honestly don't trust the reviews on this website, they are all too glowing. Search google for other reviews and you'll see my complaints are far from unique.
